My motivation for being in RESPEKT is the sexual and reproductive health awareness I get to create to those younger than me and in their teenage years which are the most crucial. Most of these teenagers do not get enough information on such topics in their school curriculum especially in this African setting. Creating awareness and spreading the knowledge that I have from medical school as well as personal experiences to my young brothers and sisters enables them to make informed decisions about their health in general. They get to understand how their bodies naturally work and how to avoid preventable diseases and unwanted pregnancies, through abstinence and the likes. They get to have an older sister who gives them advice on real life situations and how to handle them by creating a safe space for each one of them. RESPEKT is an amazing opportunity for me to give back to my community by sharing information that will help the youth by giving them knowledge and wisdom that they will use in order to live a quality life that is good for both their wellbeing and the society at large.
I am a mental health awareness advocate. Mental health is a rising issue currently in the society and has taken so many lives. It is a preventable and curable disease. I create awareness on this issue on my personal platforms to help prevent stigma and encourage those who suffer from it to seek help. It is a disease like any other and requires the same attention as the rest of the known diseases. Mental health is a crucial part of our wellbeing and our bodies, if it is not well taken care of it reduces the quality of life that we live and affects those around us directly and indirectly. It is okay not to be okay, and people are here to help during such situations. There is help.
I am also an advocate for anti corruption among the youth. Corruption is the downfall of most African countries and I would like to curb this issue in any way I possibly can no matter how small it may seem. The future belongs to the youth, if we learn how to live and work with integrity then the whole nation will benefit from it and it will uplift so many people making Kenya a better place to live in as it should be.
