My name is ‘Lady’ Gesare Okemwa. I am a vibrant, outspoken and outgoing medicine student who loves life and people. I enjoy riding horses, reading books, learning new skills and hanging out with friends and especially my siblings. I am passionate about volunteering and counseling. I joined Project RESPEKT to try and help reduce the gap in sexual and reproductive health education in our country. My prior experience as a mentor to high school students was also a core motivation to assist in enlightening the younger generation on social life skills. Over the duration of time that I have gotten to work as a volunteer, my knowledge on current myths and misconceptions revolving the aforementioned topic has really changed. I have been able to reach out to hundreds of boys and girls from various counties. These interactions have also led me to work, outside the confines of this project, with similar schools to assist in solving other crucial challenges being faced .I must also note that I have, over the school holidays, bumped into some students who I talked to through this project and their responses and appreciation for our work is always heart warming. I look forward to seeing this initiative becoming a stakeholder in policy making within our health and education system.
